In the oppressive summer heat of the morning of July 18th of 2014, Ye Liansheng, hailed as the “most beautiful old man” because of picking up more than 200,000 cigarette butts, carrying a plastic bag in his left hand and holding a self-made “magic tool” in his right hand, appeared again at the side of the canal. But the difference this time was that he was followed by a group of volunteers from the summer training class for student cadres of Zhejiang RTVU. In half a day, led by Mr. Ye, the students picked up thousands of cigarette butts.
Zhou Mengqiu is a disabled young person of the 80’s generation who needs care and concern from the society himself. However, in his mind, he thinks only of contributing his passion and love to the benefit of other people and society as a whole. Since joining the volunteer service team in 2004, he began to fall deeply in love with volunteer activities. In the past ten years, he has participated in various volunteer activities on more than 70 occasions, contributing his own humble might and continuously delivering positive energy to his community.
A few days ago, Tao Jin, the only blind student in Guangxi RTVU, received his diploma and fulfilled his university dream after passing all of the evaluations and earning the required university credits.
Suffering from a congenital eye disease, Tao Jin has been blind from his childhood. He was enrolled into the sunshine class specializing in social work for degree level education at Guangxi RTVU in the autumn of 2011. During his study, he didn’t miss a single lesson. He listened intently to each explanation given by the teachers.
To establish and propagate excellent models of contemporary youth, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the China Youth Federation elected to award 30 comrades, represented by Wang Hongbing, with the 18th China May 4th Youth Medal. RTVU students Li Zhihui, Chen Qingcheng and Tan Zhongneng were honoured with the award.
Ms. Li Zhihui, the Han nationality, was born in October 1982, and is a member of the Communist Party of China. She earned her bachelor’s degree in engineering management from Jiangsu RTVU, and is now a senior engineer and head of the sewer team from the Administration Office of the Municipal Facilities of the Bureau of Urban-Rural Construction of Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province.
March 16 marked Professor Wu Hongqing’s 60th birthday and his retirement from the Open University of China (OUC), formerly known as China Central Radio and Television University, (CCRTVU). Choking back emotion as he spoke, Wu said, “When I was young, I didn’t feel the passage of time. Only now, as I look back upon the past, do I realize how short life is.
A few days ago, Lv Yana, an undergraduate student of the class of the spring of 2013 majoring in administrative management at Ninghai RTVU won the silver prize in the professional group during the finals of the “2013 Yue Opera Actress Competition”, held by the traditional opera channel of CCTV, as well as the award for “Most Popular” in the competition.
The former Vice President of the China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU), Professor Sun Lvyi, donated a total of 65 books of 15 varieties, which she had been collecting for dozens of years, to the Open University of China (OUC). The donation ceremony was held on the morning of March 10th in the Wukesong Campus of the OUC.
